My name is John Zic and approximately 4 years ago, after a somewhat harsh, yet much deserved wake-up call from my then girlfriend, I decided to get my life in order and face my deteriorating health head on. At the time of that decision, I weighed approximately 225lbs (thankfully down from my peak of 240 lbs) had pre-hypertension, severe joint pain, persistent indigestion, and generalized inflammation. I began my health journey by reading the 4 Hour Body by Tim Ferris which enlightened me to the wonders of the Slow-Carb diet. This diet worked well for the first 6 months helping me lose 25lbs. However, I inevitably reached a plateau that neither exercise nor diet seemed able to conquer.
It was not until January 2013 when a documentary, the Perfect Human Diet, fell into my lap. Finally, I was fully introduced to the unique teachings of the Paleo diet. I felt like with every passing minute of the documentary more of life’s greatest truths and mysteries were being revealed to me. [Ok – maybe a bit dramatic :)] But, seriously, it was freaking awesome. I immediately adopted the Paleo principles and applied them to my daily life. Within 2 months, I had lost another 15lbs and arrived at a weight of 185lbs — a 55lb weight loss from my peak. (See below before and after pictures for evidence).
Over the past three years, I have stayed completely Paleo approximately 85% – 90% of the time, and have amassed a plethora of Paleo-related experiences, tips, recipes, and strategies. [See some specific recommendations here]
Today, my weight hovers around 175/180 lbs, and I can safely attribute the vast majority of my sustained success to the Paleo diet and its core principles. I have a few other healthy, well-researched weight management tricks up my sleeve as well. And these will certainly be making it onto the blog in the coming weeks and months.
I started this blog in December of 2013 with the hope of writing consistently awesome content and helping my readers achieve similar — and hopefully more — success than me. For the first few months, I posted often and maintained the site – unfortunately some massive life-changes occurred in 2014 and I just couldn’t get around to refreshing the blog. That all changed in late November 2015, when my domain expiration notice arrived into my inbox. I realized at that moment how much this blog meant to me and what it can mean for the hundreds of thousands (maybe more?) of Paleo followers around the world.
I am recommitting to and rekindling my passion for helping others become the best possible version of themselves. It’s truly inspiring and humbling for me see so many of my friends and family members succeed on the Paleo diet – now it’s time that that I bring my unique perspective and insight to the rest of the world! My ultimate dream is to establish this blog as a premier online locale for all things Paleo and Paleo-related. I promise to deliver relevant, helpful, and inspired content. In return, I ask for your support as I work to get this blog (and hopefully you) into peak shape.
All the best,
